Wooden window shutters at Thomas Sanderson are a stylish alternative to traditional blinds or curtains. What’s more the options and choices available are simply stunning. Our shutters are available in a number of styles, made-to-measure for your windows.
Tier-on-tier
This style of shutter allows for either the top or bottom half to open independently of each other.
This style of shutter is particularly well suited for large windows in Edwardian or Victorian houses, as they allow a good deal of privacy when the bottom half is closed but allows light to stream through the open top half. They allow you the flexibility to control the light and ventilation in your room.
Café style
Café style shutters are half size – they cover only the bottom half of the window. They are particularly suited to situations where privacy with permanent light is needed.
They suit large window panes and are particularly attractive and practical in kitchens and living rooms.
Perhaps you have a large window which faces out to a public road or walkway – this is the perfect choice for you.
Full-length
Sometimes referred to as traditional shutters, the panels of this style cover the entire window or door where it is fitted and is particularly suitable when maximum privacy is required.
When a panel exceeds a certain height a mid-rail is introduced, this is to provide additional strength to the panel and prevent warping. The use of this mid-rail allows the louvre above and below the rail to be operated independently and so gives a greater deal of flexibility.
This style of window shutter is particularly beautiful in doorways and larger windows and can be stunning when used with large louvre sizes.

Choosing the style of shutter is only the beginning. We can make your chosen style of shutter with a number of different louvre sizes – depending on the effect you want to create.
All our wooden shutters are available with louvre slats in small, medium and large.

The choice doesn’t stop there. Depending on the décor of your room, you can choose between traditional brass or modern chrome hinges.
